PROFESSION PREPARATION ROUTE
Preparation route for technical writing

Prepare clear instructions and review notes that help a reader complete a task.
Reader and task
- Separate what a reader already knows from the one task they need to do.
- Distinguish describing a product feature from writing a use step.
- Record document version and out-of-scope topics.
Instruction draft
- Use one action per step and state the expected result separately.
- Use consistent labels from the sample interface rather than vague button names.
- Do not instruct readers to open real accounts or upload data for the fictional product.
Review and edit
- State the sample task’s starting point and prerequisite.
- Do not fill a missing error description by inventing product behaviour.
- Separate observation from interpretation when a reader gets stuck.
Portfolio exercise
- Turn the sample requirements CSV into a short task guide.
- Explain one difference between an earlier draft and the revised version.
- Label it as a fictional exercise rather than real product support.
