Map your learning in the first month of a role

Use your first-month plan to understand expectations and ask useful questions rather than proving you already know everything.
Make expectations visible
Discuss early outputs and priorities with your manager. Note which decisions or user needs the work serves. Clarify an ambiguous request rather than converting it into a definite target on your own.
Separate people, process and tools
Learn who decides what, how work flows and why tools are used. Do not copy real work data into personal notes without permission. Keep only shareable process questions in your own learning list.
Build a small feedback loop
Ask what would make an initial output sufficient, share a draft and revise from feedback. At month end, review learning and open questions. This worksheet does not replace the employer’s onboarding or contractual conditions.
Turn reading into an output
- Ask about two expected early outputs.
- Separate decision-makers from process questions.
- Request feedback on one small output.
